Seaside Treasures Collection
Early works, the SEASIDE TREASURES collection - simple vignettes of objects found in the inside waters of the Belizean Reef. A lone palm tree with orange and purple water and sky, “Wild Sunset” mirrors the solitude and sometimes reclusive and mystical aspect of Kroll’s life in Belize. Kroll pulls color out of a backdrop by layering one hue on top of another, testing and playing with the edge of the possible. Simplicity is part of the deception used by an artist of great craft. Seaside Treasures collection seems trifling at first glance, a fish, a shell, water, sand, a palm, a piece of coral. But they are true presentations of island life and the wondrous undersea experience of offshore Belize. The colors are of the artist, but the shapes and textures are of Belize.
“The shore is the magical place where water meets land and deposits tiny messages of shell and coral. On the shore objects come in to be examined, are pulled back, then reappear to be examined again. Treasures dropped by the child are picked up by the adult they were meant for.”
